Research Fellowship Europe

The Center for Media and Communication Studies (CMCS) at Central European University (CEU) has vacancies for two Research Fellows to commence in spring 2011; the length of stay is six months, with the possibility of extending up to an additional twelve months. For the media and communications policy fellow, applicants should have specialization in the field of media and communications policy and regulation within the fields of audiovisual media services, electronic networks and services including the Internet, as well as governance of and ownership within these sectors, and be able to conduct comparative policy analysis.

An additional fellowship is available for a researcher with specializations among the following areas: social media;
civil society and communications; alternative and / or community media,the impact of new technologies; online free expression; or privacy concerns.Research fellows will be expected conduct their own research project and participate in the development of ongoing Center
activities and workshops related to their field of interest.  Applicants should be at the level of junior scholars, post-doctoral scholars, or advanced PhD students.  Research stipend is commensurate with
experience.

Assistant Professors Needed

The Department of Romance Languages at Bowdoin College invites applications for two one-year, full-time Assistant Professor of French positions beginning in fall 2011, with a possibility for renewal for one of the positions.

The department seeks candidates who can teach language, literature and culture courses at all levels, and has an area of specialization in 19th and 20th-century French literature and culture and/or francophone literature and culture.  Candidates who have worked in film and media studies are particularly encouraged to apply.  Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in French and provide evidence of teaching excellence.  Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered.  Successful candidates will teach four courses a year and have the opportunity to apply for research and course development support.

As the Media Arts Director you will:

Serve as the Agency's nationally recognized expert and authority for the field of Media Arts, including independent media arts centers, media artists' collaborative, emerging and interactive platforms, as well as a variety of arts service organizations.


Provide national leadership and direction concerning Agency assessments of funding and other assistance for the rapidly changing Media Arts field.  Study and analyze conditions and trends as they relate to and affect the Media Arts field.


Work with Senior Agency Officials and Program staff, constituents, private and public funders, and top-level officials of other organizations to formulate, design and recommend appropriate grant programs, leadership initiatives and partnerships that advance the Media Arts field including new forms of art creation using mobile, web-based and interactive platforms and tools.


Review proposals from the Media Arts field, manage the panel review process for applications, propose funding amounts, and present grant recommendations for consideration by the Senior Agency Officials, and the National Council on the Arts.


Select experts in the Media Arts field to serve as pre-screening and panel reviewers and chairs or co-chairs panel meetings. Organize groups of reviewers and consultants to assist in evaluating proposals and planning future programs and initiatives.

The Centre for Cultural Policy Studies is an international centre for research and postgraduate teaching in the fields of cultural policy, cultural management and the creative and media industries. We wish to appoint an Associate Professor in Cultural Policy Studies, to play a leading role in the Centre's research and teaching. This is an exciting opportunity to develop research and teaching in a wholly postgraduate context, working with a small and committed team of colleagues. You will initially be expected to lead the Centre's MA in International Cultural Policy and Management for a period of three years whilst also developing new areas of research and postgraduate teaching as part of the Centre's strategic development. You will be encouraged to pursue your own research interests within the broad fields of international cultural and media policy, including arts and media management.

You will have a PhD and an excellent research and publication record in a field relevant to the Centre's teaching and research, and have the ability to generate research funding. You will have substantial teaching experience, as well as some experience of leadership / management in a university context.

The Fellow will work in the Traditional Knowledge Division of WIPO and in so doing inter alia:
• assist in the development of and in the organization of activities related to intellectual property and genetic resources, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions;
• undertake research, drafting and the preparation of publications and other awareness raising materials;
• participate in the Secretariat of the IGC and related meetings;
• undertake outreach consultations and training activities focused on indigenous peoples; and,
• perform such other tasks as needed.

The Fellow would not be expected to work as an independent scholar, advisor or analyst, but would operate within the WIPO Secretariat and would directly participate in the delivery of core program outputs.
